Hi, I’m Ben Hannam—a graphic designer based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Welcome to my site, where I share my work, experiences, and ideas. I believe thoughtful design and smart use of technology can help make the world a better place, and I’m glad you’re here.
I’m an award-winning graphic designer, educator, and author based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. I hold an MFA in Visual Communication from Virginia Commonwealth University and a BFA in Graphic Design from Old Dominion University. I’ve taught graphic design at VCU—in both Richmond, Virginia, and Doha, Qatar—as well as at Virginia Tech. Today, I serve as an Associate Professor and department chair of the Communication Design program at Elon University, while also leading a small graphic design agency. My work focuses on thoughtful, human-centered solutions grounded in the belief that good design and good decisions can strengthen communities and improve everyday life.
I’m a lifelong learner, currently exploring generative AI and meaningful ways to support my community. I think it's important to be curious and to be open to trying new things.
